Eagle Scout is the highest achievement rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America. Since 1911, only 4% of scouts have achieved this rank after a lengthy review process. The rank of Eagle Scout may be earned by a Scout who has been a Life Scout for at least six months, has earned a minimum of 21 merit badges, has demonstrated Scout Spirit, and has demonstrated leadership within their troop, crew or ship. Additionally they must plan, develop, and lead a service project--the Eagle Project--that demonstrates both leadership and a commitment to duty. After all requirements are met, they must complete an Eagle Scout board of review. The board of review can be completed up to 3 months after their 18th birthday as long as all other requirements are completed before their 18th birthday.
